How did the band come to be named Expect The Worst and is there any special meaning behind the band being named this?

Our singer, Max, came up with the name. I'm not really sure where he got it from or what, but we all liked it and it stuck.

who are some of the bands main musical influences?

We don't really try to be like any certain bands, we like to have our own style of music so the people have something new to listen to.

what are your views on fighting at shows?

Well no matter what fights are going to happen so it's just whatever. The first show we ever played here in our hometown there was a fight. We're not really a 'positive' hardcore band so it's not like we're 100% against it

are any members in side projects other than Expect Than Worst?

None of our members are in any other bands or side projects.

how long has the band been together?

Since around February of '08

how many cds eps 7 inches split cds and demos has the band currently released?

We recorded one demo ourselves and that's about it. We're on a break right now and plan on recording a 6 or 7 song EP before we come back.

what do you base your lyrics on when writing new material?

Everything. Every song is about something different and so it's hard to say what the next songs will be about.

is there a large and thriving scene in the Altoona area as well as throughout Pennsylvania?

Not so much anymore as it used to be. Our scene here was a lot bigger about a year or two ago and it's just going down.

what are your views on kids who talk shit about getting hit at a hxc show then crying about it on the internet?

If you don't want to get hit, then don't come. People are always gonna dance and if its a problem then just don't come. You can stand in the back or on the side and still not get hit.

what is your favorite song to cover during a set?

Thirteen by Bad Luck 13. People always go nuts when we play it.

is this the original lineup and if not what is the current lineup?

We're actually going through some changes right now and keepin it on the down low for now.

if you could have anyone do guest vocals on your next recording who would it be and why?

There's a good bit of people we'd want to do vocals on any recording so it'd be hard to just pick one haha

in only one sentence describe your sound to someone who has never heard you before ?

Straight hate.

how were you first exposed to the scene and what made you say i want to be in an band?

I first started going to shows when I was 12 and I just loved them. Everyone was just there to have fun and there was no bullshit or fighting or anything.

where do you see the band in 3 years from now?

If we're still together, hopefully touring and still having fun.

who are some of the up and coming bands from the Altoona area as well as throughout Pennsylvania that we should be on the look out for?

Our friends in Terrible Minds! (www.myspace.com/terriblemindspa) ; If you like fast, pissed off hardcore then definitely check them out.

the term hardcore has become so overused that any band putting a breakdown into a song is considered hardcore but explain to the readers what hardcore means to you?

There's a lot of bands now a days that just put breakdowns in songs and think their hardcore. Hardcore is more than just a breakdown, it's more just like who you are.

How can the readers from around the world contact you about ordering merchandise?

We don't have any merch yet but we plan on printing some shirts and hoodies and shit before we start playing shows again and I'm sure they'll be available on our myspace. (www.myspace.com/expecttheworstpa)

What is your most memorable show and why?

Probably our first show in Altoona. It was in a pretty small venue with a lot of kids there and everyone was moving and having a good time.

Who are some of the bands that you enjoy sharing shows with?

Terrible Minds!!

What advice can you give to some of the newer bands starting out that maybe having a tough time and thinking about giving up?

Don't give up and always try your best. Even if a lot of people don't like it, as long as your having fun then that's what counts.

where do you think you would be right now had you not been exposed to the hxc metal scene?

Haha I don't even want to think about that.

what is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to the band when playing a set?

When we were were going to play our old intro at the end of our set and we all forgot it and just played whatever came to our heads because people knew it wasnt the intro.

why do you think that people always associate violence with hardcore shows and it always gives hxc scenes and shows a bad reputation?

Because there's always fights. A lot of the surrounding areas don't really like coming to Altoona because there's usually at least 1 fight at every hardcore show here but hey, it happens everywhere, not just here.. If you don't like it then just don't come.

Do you have any upcoming shows that you would like to tell the readers about?

Not right now. We're re-writing right now and probably won't be playing shows again until the new year.

Is there anything else that you would like to add that i may have forgotten to ask that the readers should know about?

Just to keep checking back on our myspace for some news about shows and new recordings. We should be going into the studio in the next few months to record an EP and start playing shows again.

Thank You Chris and Expect The Worst for taking the time out to do this interview with Worldwidetakeoverzine
