http://www.myspace.com/beforethefallorg
http://www.beforethefall.org

First off i would like to personally thank Mike and Rude from Before The Fall for taking the time out to do this interview with Worldwidetakeoverzine

How did the band come to be named Before The Fall

Mike: Hello and thanks! Well, Before the Fall was founded in 2005 by
Rude and me in Vienna /Austria. The Line up is following:

Mike – Vocals, Guitar
Rude - Guitar
Bane – Guitar
Hannes – Bass
Many things stand before the fall. Religions, governments, societies etc.
It shows the instability in the world.

Rude: But it´s also a synonym for the adrenaline kick such as you stand on a high rise before the fall.

who are some of the bands main musical influences

Rude: Pantera, Sepultura, Machine Head, Carcass, Hypocrisy, Fear Factory, Metallica Slayer, Opeth, Meshuggah.

But we also like the new stuff such as Unearth, Hatesphere, As I lay dying etc.

are any members in side projects other than BTF

Rude: No, at the moment all members are totally concentrated on BTF. I think for a new band it`s very important that the whole band is focused on one common goal.

how long has the band been together

Mike: 3 years for now.

how many cds eps 7 inches split cds and demos has the band currently released

Rude: We`ve recorded some tracks before our album “From Mutism to Riddance” was released but it wasn`t an official demo or something like that. The track “Some Bleeding More” for example was recorded in march 2005.

what do you base your lyrics on when writing new material

Mike: The Lyrics are basically about socially critical stuff as well as private things which makes me pissed off. They´re critical but I don´t want to take any politically stand. Writing songs and lyrics is the only and perfect valve where I can relieve my aggressions in a useful way.

is there a large and thriving scene in the Vienna area as well as throughout Austria

Rude: We got a very aspiring Metalscene here in Austria. There are many good bands like The Sorrow, Belphegor, In Slumber, Perishing Mankind, Pandora`s Dawn etc.
But I can´t believe that you never heard about Pungent Stench. In the 90´s they were one of the biggest Death Metal Bands in the world!

is this the original lineup and if not what is the current lineup

Mike: At the moment we´re looking for a new drummer, because Phillip left the band after the tour with Gorefest to do his exam. But we already have some candidates to choose the best one for us.

if you could have anyone do guest vocals on your next recording who would it be and why

Rude: Hehe, that`s a good question. Of course someone of our idols like Phil Anselmo or Max Cavalera but Peter Tägtgren for example would be cool too. Any famous singer or producer can help a new band to stand out of the crowd.

does the band have any plans to tour the USA in either 2009 or 2010

Rude: It`s a big dream to do that some day and I hope we will rock the states at least with our third album. But nowadays we don`t have any offers.

in only one sentence describe your sound to someone who has never heard you before

Mike: On our album are brutal thrash riffs and break-downs as well as melodies and smoother passages from time to time.

when the band is on tour in the van what is usually playing in the cd player

Rude: Mostly of course metal, old stuff like Sepultura, Metallica, Amorphis etc. and also new stuff like As I Lay Dying, Hatesphere, Divine Heresy etc. but also rock-music from AC/DC or Mötley Crüe.

Mike: Yes, and sometimes stuff from the 80`s like Samantha Fox or Nick Camen.

how were you first exposed to the scene and what made you say i want to be in an band

Rude: I already played in a band 15 years ago. It was a death metal band called Doped Nomad. But when we left the school we split the band and I made music for myself in my home-studio. But I always knew that I want to be in a band again and to be onstage. Mike and me, we knew each other a long time because we had the same girlfriend, so we were not the best friends from the beginning.

Mike: Hehe, that`s true, we shared a girl. At that time I also recorded some stuff for my own. But some time the girl wasn`t a theme anymore and we exchanged our music. And let me tell you, from the beginning it was clear to write music together and create a band.

what are your views on fighting at shows

Rude: I don`t like fights on shows. Sometime it`s cool to build a circle pit or a so called “wall of death”, but not in an aggressive way. So let`s bang our heads and enjoy the music.

what are some of the best brewed beers in Austria that you would recommend

Rude: Let me tell you, austria has the best beers in the world. There are some blends like “Wieselburger”, “Stiegl”, “Ottakringer” or “Murauer.

when on tour and driving from city to city what is some of the weirdest shit you have seen happen or pass by

Rude: There happened nothing special. We had a cool tour, only sleeping four weeks in the van was really hard.

where do you see the band in 3 years from now

Mike: I hope our second album will get the support of a big label like “Metal Blade” for example. Touring of course is very important to catch the crowd. Let`s see what will happen.

Rude: I think if we continue working hard we will be there where we want to be, but it takes time. We already get the support of our manager Werner Stockinger, a well known person in the scene. With his help we hope to make the “break though”.

How can the readers from around the world contact you about ordering merchandise

Mike: At the moment we don`t have a distribution for our merchandise. Only our current CD “From Mutism to Riddance” is available via “Twilight Zone Records”. You can order it on www.twilight-mailorder.de.

who are some of the up and coming bands from the Vienna area as well as throughout Austria

Rude: Of course “The Sorrow”, the most famous band from austria at the moment, but there are some cool bands like “In Slumber”, “Pandora`s Dawn”, “Perishing Mankind” or “Gasmac Gilmore”.

the term hardcore has become so overused that any band putting a breakdown into a song is considered hardcore but explain to the readers what hardcore means to you

Mike: That`s such a wasted subject, always the same babbling. What is Hardcore, what is Metalcore? Like you said. It seems to me that every newcoming band is called metalcore by media if they don`t sound like a 80`s True Metalband. But what the fuck? If you like what you hear it`s ok, if not, also. This is no question of being original or renewing for me. Original is everyone who is honest to his own.

Rude: People want to hear good music and most bands play modern metal with a mixture of different styles. For example, on tour I also saw a circle-pit when Gorefest was performing. Originality is a wide description. I think it always depends on the mixture of riffs and melodies and not on one break-down. So it`s always the complete song and not one riff or one melody. And we definitely aren`t a hardcore band.

What is your most memorable show and why

Rude: There were some really impressive shows during our career. During our tour with “Gorefest” for example was a festival in Salzburg – this show was awesome. A sold-out show and we had the best crowd on this evening. In february we played with “Heaven Shall Burn” in vienna. The pit was awesome too. For me it always depends on the response from the crowd.

what is your favorite city and coutnry to play shows in and also your least favorite and why

Mike: We like to play everywhere. If the crowd is satisfied with our show and music it was a good show.

Who are some of the bands that you enjoy touring with

Rude: My dream would be to go on tour with Max Cavalera, you know Soulfly and Cavalera Conspiracy, or Peter Tägtgren from Hypocrisy and Pain. Both are idols of mine and I think I can learn a lot from them.

What advice can you give to some of the newer bands starting out that maybe having a tough time and thinking about giving up

Rude: Music is a hard business but if you like to play music then play it loud and hard.. And if you don`t get the response you want, then play it louder and harder, hehe. So believe in your own and metal up your ass.

Mike: Well, we all got “normal” Jobs such as waiter, media designer, office employer etc. At the moment we can´t live only by playing music. But it´s definitely our goal. We live for the music and there´s no other possibility to realize our dream!

where else besides myspace can the readers go to to findout about upcoming shows and other band related information

Mike: On our website www.beforethefall.org you`ll get all informations you need.

where do you think you would be right now had you not been exposed to the hxc metal scene

Rude: We know for now we are “only” a underground band but we only released one album. Be patient and expect a second album which will kick everybody`s fuckin`ass, hehe.

what is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to the band when playing a set

Mike: Once a girl jumped on the stage and wanted to take off my clothes. We had to interrupt the show for 5 minutes until we could continue our set.

Rude: The same happened to me, but it was a guy…

what is the worst injury that any of the band has had happen when playing show

Rude: The worst injury that could happen is when there`s no beer on stage. It makes me nervous, hehe. No, you have to be well prepared before every show, if that`s done you only can wait for something you can`t be influenced.

Do you have any upcoming shows that you would like to tell the readers about

Rude: Well, we play some fetivals in austria this summer and one in hungary I think. A really cool festival is in june – Summer-Nights feastival with Obituary, Volbeat, Maroon,…An awesome festival we already played last year.

Is there anything else that you would like to add that i may have forgotten to ask that the readers should know about

Mike & Rude: We`re still not there where we want to be and know there`s much work for us. Our goals for the future are for sure many concerts and festivals but also a great new album which will achieve many metal-fans. We would like to
thank everyone who supports us! A big cheers to our friends out there. Be prepared for the future – thx for the interview!!!

Gravemaker interview by Cody with wayne drummer of Gravemaker

http://www.myspace.com/gravemaker

First off i would like to thank Wayne and Gravemaker for taking the time out to do this interview with Worldwidetakeoverzine

How long has Grave Maker been together?

we've been working at it since early summer of '07

What is the current line-up? Who are original members?

current is baily-bass, jon-vocals, brian-guitar and myself(wayne) on drums. Christopher Mcrae started this band with us, he had a HUGE influence on the style and sound of the band, but unfortunately he left the band in early 08 on good terms, we all miss him. this band just wasn't what he had his heart set on at the time. also, Andy Rice was the original singer, and jon was playing bass, but again, andy had other things he was working on at the time.

How did you come up with the name Grave Maker?

not sure...sounded kinda unique and a little off, so we liked it.

Do any members have side projects?

im in a street punk band based out of seattle called "Poverty Bay Saints"

Who are your musical influences?

we write music we would want to hear, we don't try and pull things from certain influences, we all listen to a verity of music, and we just write what come out, its never a situation where we are saying to each other "it needs more cro-mags" or "it needs less madball" what comes out comes out.

How is the Canadian hardcore scene?

amazing, we're just finishing up month long canadian tour, and it has been so rad. the shows are off the wall and the people are incredibly nice. more bands need to tour canada.

What has been your favorite tour?

we did a west coast tour with pressure point, ill intent and masterpiece and it was so much fun. so many friends and al those bands are really fun to watch. it was a blast.

What have been your best and worst show moments?

worst would have to be breaking 9 sticks in a set. not only did it sound bad, sticks cost a fortune these days. the best show moment might have to be in Squamish, bc in canada, when we played in a shack to a strict audience of metal heads, and they loved it. so many head bangs.

What's in the cd player on tour?

Ruiner - Prepare to be Let Down
Paramore - Riot!
Blacklisted - Heavier than Heaven, lonelier than God
H2O - Nothing to Prove
CCR - Greatest Hits

If you could set up your ideal show to play, with anybody you wanted on it, who would you put on it?

H2O, good riddance, bouncing souls, cro-mags

What sets Grave Maker apart from other bands?

not sure man, all we want to do is tour, so thats what we do.

How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard you before?

hardcore punk rock.

Do you guys have any plans for touring any time soon?

yeah, were on tour now until july 1st. we have some shows coming up on the east coast with KTD, Ruiner and The Carrier. and the rest of the dates are all with Decades for dallas. we will take a little bit off to work for a month or so, then we will be back on it again, keep your eyes peeled.

What CDs and records have you guys released?

a demo 7" on copper lung records, and july 22nd our full length cd come out on Think Fast! records.

Is there any music coming in the near future?

july 22nd "Bury me at Sea" on Think Fast! records.

What got you into hardcore?

good riddance

Where do you think you would be if you hadn't discovered hardcore?

id probably have a job, a house to live at, college degree, maybe even a girlfriend and a ton of useless shit. haha. i don't want to think about that.

What do you think about the way the media portrays hardcore?

they can see it how they want. as long as the people in hardcore keep the right perspective, it shouldn't matter what the outside world thinks.

Is there anything that you want to accomplish as a band that you haven't done yet?

i want to play everywhere i can, and see everything i can, i wont be satisfied until someone fores me to stop. haha.

You're on Think Fast! Records. How has that been so far?

i love it, those dudes are so rad, we are all really stoked for the opportunity to work with them

Where can people go to get Grave Maker merch and cds?

cd's out soon. you cna get merch from our myspace page, and im sure there will be some up on think fasts site soon.

Anything that you want to say that I didn't cover?

i love skateboarding and swimming.

Foundation Interview by Cody

http://www.myspace.com/xfoundationx

First off i would like to thank all the Tomas and Foundation for taking the time out to do this interview with Worldwidetakeoverzine

How long has Foundation been together?

Foundation began in the summer of 2006.

What is the current line-up? Who are originals?

Nome on Guitar, Champion plays drums, David on Bass, Matt playing Second guitar, and me (Tomas) singing.
Our very first line up consisted of two kids named Josh and Billy. Billy left to concentrate on Overdose his other band, and Josh left after a mutual agreement that we should move on without him.

How did you come up with the name Foundation?

Well the bands original name was going to be Turnstile, which we all really liked, until Champ took over on drums and completely disliked it, so we came up with Foundation, something strong, and concrete, not in the literal sense, but to coincide with our feelings on hardcore, straight edge and the community as a whole.

Do any members have side projects?

Yes. Nome is in a new hardcore band from the area called Deal Breaker. They just recorded one of the most blazing demos I have ever heard, and should be playing shows by the time this comes out.
Matt also founded and played in Overdose, another Straight Edge band from Atlanta. Sadly as I type this they are calling it a day. I always get sad when local bands hang it up. We dont have alot of hardcore bands here in Atlanta, and good ones at that, but with Deal Breaker getting to start up, its a case of one chapter ending a new one starting.

Who are your musical influences?

Thats a big question. We get influenced by alot of bands and music.
I would say in the begining it was Outspoken, then we started to dabble in victory style bands Snapcase, Strife, Indecision, etc. Now with our newer stuff its just getting heavier over, an all thickness, but still really fast, insert any bands that sounds like that here.

Where do you get the inspiration for your lyrics?

Honestly, where wouldn't you get inspriation for lyrics?
All you have to do is open your eyes and look around. That may seem vague, but Im just singing about what I see and feel.
I get so upset at the things I see and hear, and I think about how I used to align myself with these people and beliefs and I get even more heated, so Id have to say that most the songs I write, may seem like I am pointing a finger, but underneath it the finger is pointing right back.
I mean Ive always considered hardcore this awakening, so alot of that has to do with waking up, the shock I feel about being so blind and now that Ive taken this course in my life there is no going back. I mean this is going on ten years now that I have made most these decisions, its just now I can scream and shout about it.

How is the Atlanta scene?

Amazing, with its own handful of issues. Id say its like most communities out there, the only difference maybe being since Atlanta is fairly Isolated unlike the North East or West Coast we know each other really well here, truly a family. These arent the kids you just see at shows, these are kids I run into everywhere I go. The "scene" right now in Atlanta is going Strong, lots of kids coming out, doing their parts making flyers and zines, starting bands, I love it. We were going through a really dark period a few years ago but we really pulled it back together. Im happy about that. It had gotten to the point that even bigger bills were having spotty turn outs, and smaller ones were having NO turn out. If we can keep our heads on straight and not let little things chip at us, who knows where Atlanta could be in a few years. I will say this though, ask alot of the touring bands out there about Atlanta, and you should get a good response. Im not trying to be boastful but I am damn proud of where I live.

What has been your favorite tour?

We've never really toured as a band. We have done weekends here and there, and this past winter we did like 10 shows with Have Heart, Down To Nothing, and Wake Up Call. So based on that I would have to say that "tour" was my favorite, but thats just personally speaking. We (everyone in the band) had always been friends with HH and DTN before this was ever a band, so finally getting to hit the road with them and play some shows was a big deal for us. I want to say Thank you right now to all three bands from that trip, we couldnt have done it without them, and seeing them every night was like having someone run electricity through your body.

What have been your best and worst show moments?

One of my favorite show moments was our first show, when our roadie/6th member Ryan did a front flip as soon as we started playing. That was kind of a big deal because it set the mood for the entire set.
Worst moment is hardest. Anytime I get wrapped in the cord and fall over or run into David I feel awful, because I dont just tap him I always come down hard. Other than that I would say we have been fairly lucky.

What's in the cd player on tour?

Either the most annoying sad bastard shit you have ever heard or the most ignorant hardcore known to man - depends on who is driving. I would say Nome is my favorite DJ in the van. There was a brief period where we listened to Bitter End Climate of Fear alot and Samiam on repeat.

If you could set up your ideal show to play, with anybody you wanted on it, who would you put on it?

The most ideal show is the one that all my friends are at, and playing, so I can go off for them. Were getting ready to play an all locals show this weekend, and Im most excited for that.
But if you want to get fantasy, maybe something like this:
Chain Of Strength, Unbroken, Silent Majority, and Buried Alive.
Any one of those bands on a bill would be great...I wish Sick Of It All still did those monster hardcore tours like they used to. I think it was like 99 or 00 when it was Sick Of It All, Afi, Indecision, and Hot Water Music on one tour, plus whatever local acts.

What sets Foundation apart from other bands?

I cant answer this without making some type of joke, so Ill just say this: I dont think we do anything better than anyone or worse. We just do what we feel is right as a band and put our hearts into it.

How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard you before?

Ive heard us compared to a few bands, but when someone asks me who doesnt know or understand hardcore I just say Rage Against The Machine. Its a simple answer and it gets the point across. Brutal.

What CDs and records have you guys released?

We have a demo released and a self titled seven inch on Eightfold Path Records.

Is there any music coming in the near future?

Yes we are releasing a two song single this summer with Triple B records entitled "Never Stops Raining" it should be out by our full US with Forfeit.

What do you think about the state of hardcore today?

Big.
Its getting bigger everyday, and with that its becoming more accesible and people are getting into it for the wrong reasons. Not to say people havent been doing that since day one, but the percentage is higher and at an alarming rate, with the interent these days, what bored, unmotivated teenager cant get into hardcore?
I love seeing tons of kids at shows, but how long is it going to last? Actually thats not even it - I hear about tons of kids being into hardcore but I can still go to a show and only see 20 people there. But if I go home after the show and check a messageboard I can literally see their footprints from sitting at home all night on a computer talking shit on some record or discussing the finer points of sneakers. So although its getting bigger, I can not honestly say its becoming any more sincere than its been.

Is there anything that you want to accomplish as a band that you haven't done yet?

Reach someone - I know that sounds hoaky but the message of hardcore was always what was so important to me. There were so many times when I was younger that I wanted to just run right up to the singer or guitar player of whatever band and just pour out to them how much the band meant to me, and how they had helped me at some point in my life. Music is amazing in the way that it does that to people, it personifies emotion. It can make you feel so low or so high, and turn you completely around in the same listen. That was what got me so stuck on hardcore and punk in general is that it didnt just move me it shoved me. This music is about connection and I want to feel connected to every person listening to it, understanding it, and loving it just as much as I do.
Going back to reaching someone, I honestly dont know how I would take it if someone told me that Foundation was so important to them. I would probably be very passive in the conversation, and left wondering what just happend.
Id rather it be an unspoken bond, if that makes any sense.
In another way I do really appreciate the fact that this band has taken me out of Atlanta and to different cities and places. I have always loved traveling, but now I really have a feesable way of doing it. I mean I saw NYC for the first time after X-Mas because of this and it was amazing. I was like a little kid freaking out and yelling in the van. So I definitely look forward to more of that.

How have you liked your label, Eightfold Path, so far?

Eightfold Path is a good label. Erika and Nicky really got the job done as far as getting the seven inch out. They also promoted it well, which is all I could ever ask for, as far as a label is concerened. They have been putting out decent records since day one and I hope it continues for them and they are able to take the label as far as it can go. If you havent done so yet, check out the Unforgiven EP they just put out. VERY solid release.

Where can people go to get Foundation merch and cds?

Either from us at our shows, or Eightfold Path Records. As we get closer to Mid Summer you will be able to order the new single and merch from Triple B Records.

Anything that you want to say that I didn't cover?

I just want to say thank you for the interview, and if anyone has a spare minute please check out these bands:
Hard Luck, Overdose, The Holy Crows, Deal Breaker, The Bukkake Boyz all from Atlanta, P.S.Eliot (AL), Lie and Wait (TX), Forfeit (NY), Unforgiven (CT), and Downpresser (CA).
Hardcore: live it, love it or leave it.
