Indisgust Interview with Mike Chris and Rogelio interview by Sean WWTO

http://www.myspace.com/indisgust

First off i want to thank Mike Chris and Rogelio from Indisgust for taking the time out to do this interview with Worldwidetakeoverzine

Indisgust Lineup:
Mike Fury - Drums
Chris Crudo - Vocals
Rogelio Vigil - Guitars
Zak Disgust - Guitars
Cody Foster - Bass

how long has the band been together?
Mike - We started jammin in September 2002 and played our first on Feb 21st 2003 @ The Rox in San Antonio, TX so yeah we've been a band for a little over 5 years.

how did the band come to be named Indisgust and is there any special meaning behind the band being named this?
Chris - There's really nothing special behind the band name. It was just a brutal song we have called 'Indisgust' so it best represented the band for it's brutal sound.

what was it like being able to be a part of Tons Of Fun 2007 in Las Vegas Nevada and being able to be on a lineup with Fellow Texas Bands such as Will To Live and Flawless Victory?
Mike - It was awesome! Arriving there and finding out that we were all playing back to back with each other, I knew Vegas was going to get their asses kicked with 3 badass bands from Texas.
Chris - It was cool to be apart of a hardcore fest for being the only metal band out of Texas.

are any of the members in side projects other than Indisgust?
Mike - Well I and Rob To Live are currently starting a new band called 'The Weight of Respect' which we should be ready by sometime late this summer so keep your eyes and ears open. Chris - Me and Zak Disgust started a band 'Strength Beyond Strength' out of San Antonio, TX. We played a couple of shows in the TX area and currently looking for a drummer.

is this the original lineup and if not what is the current lineup?
Chris - It's always been the original lineup with the addition of our bassist Cody Foster out of Austin, TX.

is there a large and thriving scene in the New Braunfels area as well as throughout Texas?
Chris - As far as New Braunfels goes, there's nowhere to have shows for our kind of music so our home shows are in San Marcos, TX which is only like 15 miles away. And for Texas - San Antonio, Austin, Dallas, Houston, and Laredo all have energetic scenes as well as respect for the music.

what do you base your lyrics on when writing new material?
Chris - Basically hard times and everyday life. There's nothing special about it, it's all a struggle.

when the band is on tour in the van what is usually playing in the cd player?
Mike - Well when I get my chance to sneak some cd's in, I'll usually put on the classics or 80's metal such as Ozzy, Motley Crue, Scorpions, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, etc.
Chris - From 'Wisdom In Chains' to Houston's very own 'Z-Ro' Rogelio- Peeping Tom, Radiohead, Frank Zappa, Behold...The Arctopus

how were you first exposed to the scene and what made you say i want to be in an band?
Mike - I've been going to shows ever since I was a lil kid in diapers but as far as the local scene goes, I really got into the scene in 2000. Started checkin out the local shows, communicating, socializing with different people and it pretty much went from there. Being a kid and watchin big bands like Van Halen and Metallica really wanted me to be apart of a band, seeing the whole crowd packed in arenas, pyro and all that stuff that made me go 'Damn, thats what I wanna do!
Chris - It started back when I was a kid but it really hit hard when I started listening to bands like Sepultura, Pennywise, Pantera, Sick Of It All, Agnostic Front.....that was enough for me to live out this lifestyle, a dream to create a band.

who are some of the bands main musical influences?
Mike - I have to say ever since we started, bands like Dillinger Escape Plan, Cephalic Carnage, The Red Chord, Pig Destroyer and so on really took an effect on our music influence.

How would you describe your music to someone who has never heard your music?
Chris - That's a tough question to explain. The best way to find out is to see us live or to hear us on cd.

when on tour and driving from city to city what is some of the weirdest shit you have seen happen or pass by ?
Chris - When we were in Tijuana, we saw more dirty whores there than in Vegas, haha!!

how many cds eps 7 inches split cds and demos has the band currently released?
Chris - We've released 2 demos and at this time we are currently working on an EP release.

what can someone expect to see when attending an Indisgust show in Texas especially if they have never seen the band perform live before?
Mike - Energy, intensity, and loudness
Chris - Beer and Vulgarities

the term hardcore has become so overused that any band putting a breakdown into a song is considered hardcore but explain to the readers what hardcore means to you?
Mike - To me, the true hardcore bands are Madball, Sick Of It All, and Agnostic Front. Hardcore is a lifestyle, working to pay the bills, being there for your friends and family showing nothing but your love and respect. Thats what hardcore is all about.
Chris - My family, friends, my music, crew, and staying true. You dont have to have breakdowns, haha!

what are your views on fighting at shows?
Mike - Its pretty stupid if you ask me. Hardcore kids would wanna fight someone if they get pushed in the pit because some metal dude wants to mosh. So what?!? Everyone should let everyone do what they do. There's too much separation and ego in the scene and there's really nothing to prove.
Chris - Fights should be settled in the streets, not at the shows.

where do you see this band in 3 years from now?
Mike - I hope to see this band a lot more successful. Being a band from out of New Braunfels is kinda hard to make it in the music industry since there is really no scouts from record labels who come out to the shows around the area. I would like to see us have a name for ourselves and touring the world non-stop.
Chris - Constantly touring and producing music with or without a label.

what was the bands reactions when hearing that both Pride Kills and Will To Live are deciding to call it quits?
Mike - Haha! well since being the drummer for 2 of Texas Hardcore's finest, I was pretty devasted to hear that both bands were throwing in the towel. I've been in Will To Live since March 2005 and I must say it's been quite a journey recording and touring with the band. WTL was my first band to actually go out and tour. I will miss it a lot!! We played some badass shows, met some cool ass down to earth people, it was just a big experience for me. I'm just thankful for Rob To Live, Scott, and Gibson for me giving me the chance to play with one of the best well-respected hardcore bands of all-time. As for Pride Kills, you know it was a lot of fun playing in that band. I loved jamming with Gabe, Luke, Jason and Ribs every second. We were starting to play shows again, write new music, and go on tour in April w/ Shattered Realm and The Mongoloids as well but it all went downhill. To tell you the truth, it was a major bummer. We had some family and personal issues within the band so hopefully it wont be the last of PK and its just temporarily. We do have a spot for This Is Hardcore Fest in August so I hope we're able to do it.
Chris - Will To Live and Pride Kills gave us hope and reason to hold strong in the scene. With or without them, I hope this gives heart and meaning to our scene and lifestyle for any band. If it wasn't for these bands, there would be no Texas Hardcore!

How can the readers from around the world contact you about ordering merchandise?
Mike - For anyone who would like to order merchandise from us, please feel free to reach us at either www.myspace.com/indisgust or indisgust@hotmail.com. On our myspace page, we do have pics of some of our shirt designs for the public to see.

What is your most memorable show and why?
Chris - It was our first show because being the fact that I was nervous and it was packed with 200 + in the crowd.
Mike - I have to say our first show as well. I just remembered being so nervous and excited at the same time. Seeing the place packed, I was like 'Wow! this is badass for being our first show.'

if the band could have anyone do guest vocals on the next recording who would it be and why?
Chris - Morgan from Kill The Client for his raw and vocal assault to fit our grind element. George from Flawless Victory, Jimmy Suicide King, Guy from The Red Chord, Philip H. Anselmo, George 'Corpsegrinder' Fischer, just to name a few.
Mike - I think it be awesome to have Aaron from The End to do guest vocals. Just to have his vocals over our music would be insane! Nate from Since The Flood and Ray from Full Blown Chaos would be cool too.

what is your favorite city and country to play shows in and also your least favorite and why?
Mike - I have to say my favorite city to play is in San Marcos, TX. Thats where we throw our shows, we pack the house no matter who is playing with us. It always feels good to play close to home and have all our friends and family come out. Least favorite, I have to say San Antonio. Dont get me wrong, I love San Antonio for all our friends we have there who come out to support but the scene sucks! It's not for us!
Chris - I agree.

What advice can you give to some of the newer bands starting out that maybe having a tough time and thinking about giving up?
Mike - Dont ever give up! Thats the last thing you wanna do. Keep on striving for what you love and dont let anyone and/or anything come in the way of it. Practice makes perfect! If you got potential, if you got talent, if you got skills, what do you have to lose?
Chris - It's good to be the underdog, your drive to become stronger. Stay true to your music and your beliefs. There's no one that can keep you down but yourself, that's the biggest thing to overcome.

Who are some of the bands that you enjoy touring with?
Mike - Haha! Well we really have only gone on one tour and that was with Will To Live back in June 2005 but that was pretty cool and a lot of fun to actually experience the lifestyle of it. We've done some weekend tours like going to Mexico w/ Flawless Victory & Will To Live which was probably some of the best times we've had. Just knowing that every single person apart of it, made us feel home. Also, we did one in South Texas w/ Full Contact and Grave Robbers. That was just pure drunken debauchery, haha!!

Where else other than myspace can the readers go to find out about upcoming shows and other band related information?
Chris - Pretty much that's about it, haha! Myspace, email or personal cell phone.

where do you think you would be right now had you not been exposed to the hxc metal scene?
Mike - I dont really know but I do know is that without the help of out a lot of bands and friends, we probably wouldnt be where we're at right now.
Chris - Lost or just working 9 to 5.

what is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to the band when playing a set?
Chris - Besides all the throw-up (haha), falling down on and off the stage.
Mike - haha! It was more funny than embarrassing but we had a show in Austin a couple of months ago and at the end of one of our songs, I just got up and puked all over the back of my kit, all over the monitor cables. It was pretty gross actually, haha!

what was it like being able to play at Grownfest in 2007 at Walters Nightclub in Houston?
Chris - It was good to be apart of not only Texas Hardcore but Worldwide Hardcore thanks to Hold My Own from Long Beach, California and Invictus Maneo from Monterrey, MX even tho they didnt play. And friends and family that led up to that day.
Mike - Lots of fun! It was kinda like Texas Hardcore coming together and seeing everyone in the scene in one place. This was definitely one of my favorite shows to play.

what is the worst injury that any of the band has had happen when playing show?
Rogelio - Torn ACL (3 times)

Do you have any upcoming shows that you would like to tell the readers about?
Mike - We will be touring the east coast from March 16th thru March 24th with Flawless Victory so please be sure to check out our myspace page for all the dates, cities and venues. Please come out and support!

Is there anything else that you would like to add that i may have forgotten to ask that the readers should know about?
Mike - I think that about wraps it up Sean, haha! Yo, to all out there - just check out www.myspace.com/indisgust for the latest news and shows. Spread the word!
Chris - Bring all the green to our shows, haha! Team Green all the way!
