Flawless Victory Interview with George Hood Vocalist for FV interview By Sean WWTO

First off i want to thank George Hood and Flawless Victory for taking the time out to do this interview with Worldwidetakeoverzine

how long has the band been together?
Flawless Victory has been a band since late 2003. So, going about a good 5 years now.

how did the band come to be known as Flawless Victory and who thought up the name as well?
Tell you the truth, I dunno, I guess we as a band had a love for the game "Mortal Kombat" and thought it would either be cool or for whatever reason to name the band that. I wanna say our drummer chris is the one that had the idea of naming the band that, not quite sure. Then again, you can obviously see that we didn't really put much thought into it. haha Originally, I myself wanted to name the band "combo breaker" but half of the time the stuff that comes out of my mouth is like 60% retarded. So eh....

who had the name FV originally you or the band from London UK and has there been any problems with both bands having the same name that you know of ?
when we started back in '03 their was only two bands that we knew of that shared the same name as ours. Daniel from "Die Young" actually told me their was some local kid band by the same name as us but that it wasn't serious. It resulted that their was one in Arizona and somewhere in so cal. as far as a band in London with the same name? If you ask me I believe we had the name originally before any band in Europe. That I know of, of course. No beef what so ever!

are any of the members in side projects other than FV?
yea man, we got crazy raccoon chris and buckarroo rey playing for this local metal band named "Dead Albatross" (go figure, ask danny chains about that) and i'm currently doing a side project myself called "old seattle". it's basically a 60's,70's,80's, as well as modern day cover band with me on drums. nothing serious really.

is this the original lineup and if not what is the current lineup?
yes sir, you got chris on drums, rey on guitar, freddy " I rather snow board than tour" on guitar, good friend juan on bass, and myself doing vocals.

is there a large and thriving scene in the Laredo area as well as throughout Texas?
i'll say this man, I believe every scene goes through what I like to call a "roller coaster" were not really struggling as a scene but it's not as BANGIN as it used to be. all the high school kids grew up, some kids moved out of town and the story goes on. I believe it's within a matter of time it moves to another city. though i will say this though, we as a scene got alot of heart and hospitality. cook outs, beer drinking, a bit of ganja smoking, chilling with our closest friends. Our hearts are still set in the right place. come to laredo and see for ya self and come back in 5 years and we still be here. as far as Texas goes, their are some cities in which i believe are hot right now. McCallen has always been banging, Robstown is coming up, last time we were in Amarillo...shit was off the hook...i mean Texas is awesome.

in only one sentence describe your bands sound to someone who has never heard you before?
not your typical hardcore breakdown bull shit / posi dick sucking / Typical no warning cover band. keeping the HARD back in HARDCORE. fast and pissed. WHAT'S UP!!

what was it like being able to play the 2007 tons of fun fest out in las vegas nevada?
Tons of fun really!! I love Dustin man. I know he always got our backs. big ups to that dude. to me it was more like "Tons of Friends Fest" as well. We had our homies from Will To Live and Indisgust repping Texas as well as many friends I have not seen in a while. Of course, if you had seen me that night I was up at 7 in da morning and started drinking at 12 and stopped at 7 a.m. I WAS FUCKING HAMMERED! I got trapped in the bar and people kept buying me drink after drink, shot after shot....next day, all i remember was going to the bathroom in some weird place in nevada and pissing nothing but ALCOHOL!! Tons of fun got me WASTED!!

when the band is on tour in the van what is usually playing in the cd player?
being that danny chains was hogging the passenger seat, Thin Lizzy, Kiss, Acdc, Life of Agony, Opeth , Katatonia, Megadeath, Motley Crue, On a Warpath (r.i.p. C-loc i miss you brotha!) the list goes on!!

what do you base your lyrics on when writing new material?
I mainly write about my own personal life experiences, my heritage, my culture, etc.. I mainly try to avoid all that "scene politics" bull shit. ya know? the whole ..."aaaaaaaaa you stabbed me in the back!! you turned your back on the scene / str8 edge blah blah blah , this is about unity blah blah..." cause we ALL have heard that shit before. i don't want to affiliate my lyrics with anything scene wise. That's just me. OH new beer song called "BOTTOMS UP" watch out for that one! shit's gonna be hard!!

how were you first exposed to the scene and what made you say i want to be in an band?
my bestfriend "horacio" is one of the main reasons I got into hardcore back in 98-99. anything hardcore related...i picked up from this guy. I also wanna say boogies band "full contact" had a major impact as well. what made me want to be in a band was when i first purchased my first shitty $200 dollar drum set at a local pawn shop...me and the homeboy started jamming and I was hooked with hardcore music and it's lifestyle. www.myspace.com/fullcontact

when on tour and driving from city to city and country to country what is some of the weirdest shit you have seen happen or pass by ?
the most fucked up would have to be somewhere in north texas in some random ass neigborhood behind some convenient store. Our fat ass roadie "Wuwi" thought it would be funny to leave or drummer chris at the convenient store and just take off in the van and by the time chris saw that the van was gone he started chasing after the van and jumped on the rail of the van and was telling us to open the door while the van was moving. so, were all laughing....shit, we all thought it was funny until we didn't see chris hanging on to the side of the van anymore. I obviously saw him get down and just started walking but our dumbass roadie had the most stupidest theory of where he must of been. He thinks he's on the roof of the fucking van!! (may i add, were still driving, maybe doing like 5-10 miles in some random neighborhood) So, he opens the door and decides to take a peek on top of the roof while the van is moving. we hit a pot hole and you see the idiot bounce out of the van!! both of his hands just moved from the steering wheel and i look in the rear view mirror and he's tumbling and his feet are up in the air! Im like what the fuck? I come to the realization that no one is in the driver seat so homeboy rudy quickly reacts and takes control of the wheel right before we rammed right into some dudes house. CRAZY!! TRUE STORY!! OH, that and ummmm our bassist drank piss in L.A. thinking it was tequila!!

who are some of the bands main musical influences?
We all have different musical backgrounds, but if I can throw some names out there.. I know for a fact for rey it would be "acdc" freddy.....God knows what type of shitty metalcore band influences him. he may says metallica....i say fucking job for a cowboy (he's full of crap)...go figure...but really we all have a whole diverse of musical influences that we have that i myself can't just pick one. there's too many.

what was it like to be able to play grownfest in Houston back in august of 2007?
When I think Houston / G.A.M.C. - only one word comes to mind, HOSPITALITY!!! i fucking love houston and all my beloved friends / crew in h-town. The best HANDS DOWN! That night was awesome! Just to see people from different parts of the country come out and embrace this awesome thing we got going. I couldn't be happier. im more than sure rob can tell you the same thing only more heart warming and make you wanna cry in the end. rob should be a motivational speaker. ya know? dude makes you wanna build a house in new orleans, save a kitten, cure cancer, man....I <3>

how did the band come to be featured in born to hate video magazine and do you think they get enough credit for what they are trying to do for the scene?
Flawless Victory got added to the video zine with the help of a dude by the name of WHITEBOY BEN ( i love you cabron!) homeboy got us a slot on the dvd and we sent our footage and later it was processed. we are fortunate and grateful that we got the love and support to be added onto this dvd. Kevin and Tim , their one of the most realest actual HARD WORKING dudes that I know today that are doing it right now and their doing it big for the scene!! I have the total out most respect for these dudes and i back them 110%. they helped out a band of brown ass mexicans from a shitty border town city called laredo and have helped us out so much!! no one else that i can think of would take the time or day to help promote flawless victory not that i know of, atleast here in Texas. Like really Help us out and pick up our name out their like these dudes have. much love to kev and tim for their undying hard work and i believe they should be more than credited for the stuff they be doing. 110%!!

how many cds eps 7 inches split cds and demos has the band currently released?
2 demos, 1 D.I.Y. E.P. "Nuestra Herencia" , and 1 Three Way Split released by whiteboy ben on smooth kriminal records.

who are some of the up and coming bands from the Laredo area as well as throughout Texas that we should be on the lookout for ?
as you may know, FULL CONTACT (locally) Texas, On my side, D.t.d. , False Reason, Lie and Wait, Sudden Death, Grave robbers.
the term hardcore has become so overused that any band putting a breakdown into a song is considered hardcore but explain to the readers what hardcore means to you?
hardcore means everything to me. hardcore is the one reason why im here doing what im doing TODAY. the message, the lifestyle, it's ideals and the passion and love for the music. you can't go wrong. These are the main things that brought me where i am today i don't know about the rest of the other kids. god knows what the hell runs through their heads. seriously!
where do you see this band in 3 years from now?
still the same dudes, TOURING ALL OVER THE GLOBE!!
how much touring is the band planning for this year?
ALOT!!! Let's see...were gonna bang the east coast and fuck her for all she's got for like a week with our good friends in indisgust www.myspace.com/indisgust and maybe in the summer of june, tour the west coast once again. Then, hopefully in July if all goes well and everyone has their passports, we might consider touring Costa Rica. Giving back some love to all our gente!! ;)
How can the readers from around the world contact you about ordering merchandise?
www.myspace.com/flawlessv hit me up regarding merch. I got what ya need! Just holla!!!
What is your most memorable show and why?
Tons of fun fest!!! not only because i was super drunk and everything was like a blur to me but being that our good friend carlos had just passed away a couple days prior to the fest, our set that night was more emotional for us and i believe i played more with my heart, atleast for my part. trying to cope and deal with the fact was a shock to me. so, that night i wanted to make sure that he was remembered and make his presence be felt. Carlos will forever be missed!! love ya brotha!!!
what is your favorite city and country to play shows in and also your least favorite and why?
Favorite cities:
1. Las Vegas , NV - HANDS DOWN one of the most banging places i have been too.
2. Denver , CO
3. San Leandro , CA
4. McCallen, TX
5. Robstown, Tx
6. Cypress, Tx
7. Monterrey, NL , Mexico
8. San Marcos, Tx
9. Austin, Tx
10. Atlanta, GA
11. Guadalajara, Ja , Mexico

Least Favorite:
Manhattan, Kansas - one word...WEIRD!
odessa, Tx - weird cowboy dude @ einsteins revenge
Flagstaff, AZ - Cold as fuck that one day.

What advice can you give to some of the newer bands starting out that maybe having a tough time and thinking about giving up?
follow your natural instinct, fuck the rest do what you like to do...don't try to be the everyday typical band. BE YOURSELF most importantly!!!! fuck everyone else!!
Who are some of the bands that you enjoy touring with?
During our time, Flawless Victory has always been a D.I.Y. Type of band. we have always managed to tour by ourselves and till this day, were still by ourselves!! D.I.Y. Can't stop, Won't stop!! wassup!!! but if i had to choose i would definitely say indisgust!
Where else other than myspace can the readers go to find out about upcoming shows and other band related information?
Locally i would say go hit up http://www.laredohardcore.net/ but actual flawless victory news / updates would have to be at our myspace. www.myspace.com/flawlessv
where do you think you would be right now had you not been exposed to the hxc metal scene?
maybe dj'ing in some night club. it was that one time when i was at the pawn shop when it was up to me to decide on whether buying a drum set or some turn tables. it was difficult but i chose the drum set and hear i am today sir. I always ask myself the same question, what if i were to buy the turn tables?
what is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to the band when playing a set?
well i wouldn't really consider it embarassing but uh...their are sometimes when i intend to eat right before the show and i always tell myself not to but their could be some times where i need to pull off this one long growl part and *pffft* you got yourself an official "shart". it's happened twice already! shit sucks dude. one of them was at the grownfest actually.
if the band could have anyone do guest vocals on the next cd with you who would it be and why?
Chris Crudo from indisgust...he is such an awesome person /friend man. by far one of my first picks. another would be redman from graverobbers but god knows where the hells he's been half of the times i've tried getting a hold of him while in the studio.if i have to again i would get gabe wells of pride kills again....just cause his vocals are fucking hard and tough as nails. last but not least.....it's a long shot but i always wanted to do a track with my homeboy "ben" from hoods. i dunno man. i think he would be bad ass to do a song with. shit would come out hella hard too!
why do you think that people always associate violence with hardcore shows and it always gives hxc scenes and shows a bad reputation?
i believe it has to do on how you police your scene and how you represent it really. if you have alot of douche bags / tough guy wanna be fags swinging their fist and punching girls or little kids for no reason just to look cool at your shows, take action and let these putos know that shit don't fly round here. and if your one of those typical tough guy idiots going around punching random people for the hell of it....obviously kids are either gonna be afraid or not gonna wanna go to shows, bringing brass knuckles and bats and all kinds of stupid shit to shows, all that shit within itself causes a bad reputation. it all depends on how you represent your scene and how well you police it. my opinion.
what is the worst injury that any of the band has had happen when playing show?
none as of right now, THANK GOD!
what was your reaction when you found out that Carlos C-Loc of On A Warpath had passed away and was it difficult to be playing the memorial show for him in 2007?
as i mentioned before, i was really shocked when i heard the news. Danny chains and I were just talking about Carlos right before he went into a coma. We were talking about how we found a "On A Warpath" C.D at a F.Y.E. in Virginia or some shit. We text'd carlos but we didn't get no answer. weird enough danny chains had this really weird dream that day of a baby passing away and i dunno i started to suspect alot of shit. After we left Virginia, whiteboy ben hit's me up and tells me carlos is in a coma. so, while in the van im saying my prayers for carlos, hoping he pulls through. Days later, i got the last set of news while we were in Altoona,Pa. We were up in some fucking cave in some mountain up high and once we got down and finally got reception. i got bombed with text's stating that our good friend carlos had passed. The rest of that night I spent it just drinking by myself real late at night. As it is, whenever a family member of mine passes..it's REALLY HARD and i mean REALLY HARD for me to cope with the fact that he/she is gone. now to deal with the loss of a good friend? I really didn't know what to think of it but just try to cope and understand but hey man...that's life I guess. so coming tons of fun fest 2-3 days later, i made sure carlos was remembered and most importantly honored that night! by far, one hell of an awesome person. i can still recal the first time i ever met carlos actually, it was in december of 2005 @ the westcoast worldwide with mikey and the rest. never will i forget. over all, he was a good friend of ours with a huge heart, no doubt about that. he helped us out when we were miles away from home when he didn't have to. whether if it was flow or dro....or even a place to crash. carlos had our backs as well as we did whenever the "oaw" gang rolled into town. getting back to laredo from tour, we decided to throw a benefit show to help raise some money to send back to carlos' family. it was an emotional night yet an awesome night to remember carlos. we ended our set with a "oaw" cover in carlos' honor. R.I.P

what are your views on fighting at shows?
Lame. bunch of faggot ass kids trying to act hard thinking they got something to prove when in reality they don't know what that THING is. idiots!
do you have anything else to add that i may have forgotten to ask that the readers would like to know
